Violin Builder Tools

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:55 pm

Through the years as a builder of many instruments, I have found it necessary to create tools to make building much easier or efficient.  As a result, I have a number of specialty tools for the luthier listed below.

30 WATT BENDING IRON

height of bending post is 3 inches with a diameter of 1 1/4″.

60 WATT BENDING IRON

height of bending post is 5 1/2inches with a diameter of 1 1/2 inches,  79.00.

100 WATT BENDING IRON

height of bending  post is 6  inches and shaped like an egg looking down on the top of it at 2″ by 3″,  $120.00

CURVED CARVING KNIFE

Handmade from fine steel, this knife can be used as a finger plane, or for roughing out a great deal of material.  Used mainly for carving plates.    $23.00

 BENCH KNIFE

Made from finest quality knife steel this is a general use knife.  $23.00

PERFLING CHISEL

used to clean out and carving material away from the perfling groove before setting the perfling.    $12.00

 ”C” BOUT FORMING JIG

Takes a great deal of the frustration out of getting the ‘C’ bout ribs bent and shaped for easy insertion in the form for gluing.  Very little adjustment necessary to fit the rib to the form.  A strap is fixed in place to hold rib while it is drying and curing to the shape of the jig.    $24.95

BRIDGE FITTING JIG

A tool design to hold the bridge vertical while sanding it to fit.  $16.95

 GLUING JIG

A jig designed to hold the two piece plates in place while drying.  Save worrying about mis-alinement at the seam.(Also described in the Techniques of the Luthier) $24.95

BOW REHAIRING JIG

This simple device is a Godsend in dealing with the bow while manipulating the frog, and the hair in the tip of the bow.   $24.95  (Rehairing technique is also explained in  Techniques of the Luthier)
